Yes, I Kind of Disappeared & A New Cat

Some unexpected events took place during the past week that prevented me from following the blogging and writing schedule I had published.

On Saturday we adopted a new cat named Tiggy. He’s been consuming a lot of my time as we try to get him used to the house. Plus, he wants to play 24/7 and sometimes keeps us awake at night because he walks around the house meowing.

On Sunday I went to work on preparing the college newspaper for our first staff meeting. My Co-Editor and I met to spend 1-2 hours creating the agenda. We ended up spending a few more hours and rearranged the office and redid our in-house style-guide boards.

Then on Tuesday I had the first staff meeting of the year for the newspaper.

Between all of these I made sure that I devoted my time to working on my Camp NaNoWriMo novel, A Clash of Crimson.

Hopefully things get back on schedule, but if they don’t I’m fine with that too.

Until next time,

Chase

Introducing 2 new weekly series!

I’m very happy to announce that starting next week I’ll have two new weekly-recurring segments on this blog.

Ever since I started this blog in 2013 with my first posts in January of 2014, I meant for it to be a place to share my writing and promote myself as a writer. That worked for a while, but then it became a blog for me to write whatever I wanted. Then in 2016 I kind of stopped blogging entirely.

This month I’ve tried to get back on track with daily posts, all of them centered around either my writing of my YouTube channel. However, I think its time to start making this blog interesting again.

Throwback Tunesday

There have been Throwback Tunesday sections on other websites in the past, but they have often been abandoned. For me, I mostly listen to throwback tunes.

The idea behind this weekly post on Tuesdays is for me to share a song or album and write a little bit about it. I’ll probably show pictures of my vinyl record collection (now 448 records strong) and rant about how much better music was before I was born.

Music plays a huge role in my life, so I think it will be fun to share a little bit about how it inspires me.

Write-it Wednesday

Maybe starting next week I’ll be posting fiction again! Posting short stories on this blog proved to be a big hit last year, but I haven’t posted anything since.

I have a ton of stories that I’ve written and plan to do nothing with, so I’m exciting to start sharing them.

Hopefully this brings new visitors to my blog and helps to make up for my long absence.

Until next time,

Chase

P.S. Camp NaNoWriMo is still doing well! I forgot how stressful Chapter Three was.

STRESS

It’s been a stressful week, and that stress will continue until college breaks for summer on the 16th. I’ve got essays to write, finals to study for, and I have to wrap up things at the newspaper this week.

On a side-note, it’s hard to believe that I’ve almost finished my freshman year of college.

To take a break from the stress, I did make this simple, peaceful timelapse video on the Freak Shack channel.

Simple Musings: The Mass Media (I’m Different)

Hello, readers! It’s been a long while since I’ve made a real blog post. Expect more to follow, because spring quarter at the college ends next week!

This quarter at the college, I’ve been taking some very interesting classes such as Sociology 101 and Environmental Science 150: Environment Issues. These two classes have really made me think about the world around me and have given me new perspectives. However, today’s blog will feature something I’ve realized by taking another class: CMST&102: Intro to Mass Media.

In this class, there’s been a lot of discussion on how the mass media have been changing. Everything has been melding and converting to digital, and it’s changing the ways we do things.

The discovery I made was how old school I seem to be. Now, I don’t mean old school in a social way, I mean that the ways I consume media are different from the ways that my peers do in the 18-24 age group.

Let’s break it down into categories.

Music

Most of my peers are either buying singles from their favorite pop/rap artists on the iTunes Store, or they’re subscribed to streaming services like Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube Red/Google Play, Pandora, or Apple Music.

These services and great.

However, I’m one of those few people who still buy the physical CD of a new album. I also have a 448-vinyl record collection. Most of this is not new vinyl, but I plan to purchase new vinyl at some point.

Television

Instead of streaming TV shows on Netflix or online, I actually watch most of my favorite TV shows, well, on the TV. I will binge watch TV shows that I haven’t seen on Netflix, but when I eventually catch up with the current season I watch new episodes on TV.

Movies

Yes, I stream movies on Netflix. But also, yes. I do buy Blu-Rays of my favorites.

It’s just interesting that most of these forms of media are now consumed online by my peers, when I don’t even think to consume them in that way.

What I’ve been up to

I’ve been making videos on YouTube. This past week my family and I went to Disneyland in California for a few days and we also made videos about that spur of the moment vacation.

Hello my friends.

Remember when I promised you all that I would post the writing I had been working on for my creative writing class in college? I didn’t.

Remember when I said that I was going to participate in April Camp NaNoWriMo? Well, I didn’t.

I signed up for Story A Day for May to continue what I did with Story A Day September. I haven’t posted for it yet and it’s May 8.

So, what have I been up to?

I’ve been doing well with school this quarter. I’m taking Intro to Mass Media, Intro to Sociology, and Environmental Issues. These classes actually take a bit of time. I’m also still working at the newspaper.

In my free time, I’ve been making videos on YouTube. This past week my family and I went to Disneyland in California for a few days and we also made videos about that spur of the moment vacation.

Hopefully I’ll be more active on this vlog before summer starts, but I’m not making any promises because I, apparently, can’t keep them. I will be doing July Camp NaNo, though, so if I don’t post again I will be back then. That’s one promise I can keep because I have always done the July Camp NaNo.

Until next time, here are my most recent vlogs.

Vlog #4 – May 8 (Recorded May 6)

Vlog #3 – May 6 (Recorded May 5)

Vlog #2 – May 5 (Recorded May 4)

Sick

Well, it appears that I have become ill. On Friday had a severe sore throat and now my nose is draining like a water fountain.

I really wouldn’t care about being sick that much if it wasn’t finals week at the college. Staring down at the test book with snot running down my face isn’t ideal.

On a happier note, I’ll be posting some writing on here real soon. Like, probably next week.

Until then, have a great Monday.

New video on YouTube

I have a new video up on YouTube. It was filmed while I was in Los Angeles in February, but it took a month for me to get around to editing it.

I’ll be trying to post daily for the rest of this month to help get back into the swing of blogging. As promised, there will be some creative writing coming soon as well as a possible Camp NaNoWriMo attempt.

I’m back (ish)

Over the next month I’ll be posting some of my daily journal exercises and short stories from my college creative writing class this past quarter.

This is my first blog post (on here anyway) since January.

College and work has kept my busy, but I’ll be coming back…kind of. By coming back I mean that I won’t have a month and a half between each post anymore. It will be much shorter than that.

Tomorrow is my last day of my creative writing class and I would love to share some of what I was working on with you guys.

So, over the next month I’ll be posting some of my daily journal exercises and short stories.

I’m also going to maybe do Camp NaNoWriMo in April, so I’ll need to prepare for that.

Just one more week of winter quarter and then finals and I’ll have some free time. Then it’s back to school in April for another quarter of college classes.

Until my next post,

Chase

We’re Going to Los Angeles!

That’s right! My newspaper is going to California for the Associated Collegiate Press’s MidWinter National College Journalism Convention next month.

What does that mean? It means I’ll get to enjoy L.A. for a few days, further my 21st century journalism skills, meet journalists from across the country, and have the opportunity to showcase our news website in the Best of Show competition.

I’m pretty excited. My idea is to work hard to make sure that the website is the best that it can be and to prepare myself for some vlogging for YouTube. I mean, how can you go to L.A. and not vlog?

It’s still a month out, but I’m that excited.
